There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.
More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

This was a great pirate book with funny and sarcastic characters, an awesome feminist theme, and a hot, morally good first mate.
I really loved the main character, Alosa. She was confident, smart, and so cool! She literally could handle anything thrown her way. I really wish she was real to show me how to be a cool person. Or, you know, how to fight off three men at once. Whichever is easier. Anyway, Alosa was the best main character.
And Riden, oh, Riden. You cunning and romantic boy. He was a fun love interest because he was hot and cold, but I couldn’t figure out if he was playing or not. Like, was he digging for information or was he experiencing real feelings? All questions that were fun to explore.
There wasn’t as much action or plot or something as I thought there would have been. Things really started to heat up at the end, but I had hoped for more sooner in the book. Also, for some reason, Levenseller decided to reveal secrets quite easily. Or maybe I should call them mysteries? Either way, secrets weren’t kept for long and I don’t know if I love or hate that.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I’m not dyyyyying to read the second book, but I will since I’m mildly interested in seeing how everything turns out. Also, I need more Riden.
