Helloooo, fellow book lovers! I’ve read a lot of graphic novels recently so I’ve decided to write mini reviews for them here rather than in separate posts. Also, if you have graphic novel recs, PLEASEEEE send them my way. I’m just barely getting into the genre and would really love to know what’s out there.
Fence

I read volume 1 of Fence. And then promptly went to the store and bought volumes 2-4. I love this series so far and am so excited to really get into the romance of our two main guys. There are also a few side romances that are slowly but surely developing which I am beyond pumped about.
One thing that I particularly love about this book is that it teaches the reader about fencing while weaving into the story. I’ve learned so much about the rules and technique and what not of fencing, because the characters point out different parts about fencing each volume. It’s super helpful for me as someone who knows nothing about fencing, and also makes the plot more enjoyable because I understand the highs and lows of the game a little better.
A few random thoughts.
- Coach is awesome
- I love Nicholas’ personality
- Seiji is hooooot
- Um, BFF slow burn? YES, PLEASE
Pumpkinheads

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when starting this book, but it quickly made me fall in love with it. It’s funny, entertaining, and has just that touch of romance to make me swoon.
I think my absolute favorite part about this book was the adventure I got to go on with the characters! The whole book takes place at a fall pumpkin patch carnival place that has everything from delicious foods to corn field mazes.
The amazing characters also deserve some recognition. They were funny and relatable, especially Deja. She was constantly grabbing snacks and encouraging Josiah to skip work and live out his last day at their favorite place. So much love for this characters and this graphic novel!
Lore Olympus

I wasn’t so sure about the writing when I first started this series. It seemed immature and not very entertaining. Then vol 2 grabbed me and completely changed my opinions about the series. Now, I love the writing! It’s funny, clever, and very emotional at times.
On top of that, the visuals are so incredible! I’ve never seen a graphic novel like it which is part of what makes this so unique. The color usage and general use of visuals in storytelling are truly unparalleled.
I also have to mention how much I love Hades. Wow. There are a few characters I’d die for in this series and Hades is at the absolute top of this list! I’ve had to keep reading the series on Web Toon because I can’t get enough of it!
