Synopsis
A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister, Scarlett, from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice, but now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever…
Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . the games have only just begun.

Review
I might have liked this one better than the first? It felt more real and less confusing somehow.
The thing I like about these books is that no matter how many times I’m warned that it’s just a game, I still believe it. This book was a little different than the first, but still. Many things were apart of the game. I was tricked or blindsided so many times because I believed and trusted. It was both frustrating and amazing.
As well, I love that I was consistently surprised. I could never tell who to trust or what was real and what was apart of the game. Because of this, different curveballs were thrown my way and they always surprised me.
I wish the one big mystery of the series wasn’t so obvious. That was one negative for me. Everything is so expertly weaved into an illusion that I had hoped for more with this particular mystery. That wasn’t really the case, at least in this book, which was slightly disappointing.
Overall, however, I enjoyed this sequel. It had the same amount of energy and intrigue as the first book. Plus, the romance was still top-notch. We’ll see where things go with the third book.
