Review
This was my first book to read by Rachel Hawthorne and now I can see why hopeless romantics love her books! The story was sweet, the boys were charming, and it made me want to spend my holidays on the slopes.
One of my favorite books is Sleepaway Girls by Jen Calonita and this was giving me major vibes from that book except it switched out summer for winter. Similar to that book, I loved being able to follow this group of teenagers around during their vacation. There was plenty of drama and fun to make reading this in one sitting a breeze.
The humor in this book was top notch. I found myself smiling and laughing during multiple points. It was mostly the thoughts of the main character, Kate, that had me cracking up. It was her descriptions of people and comparisons of things that were just too funny not to receive recognition for. If only Kate were real. I’d hire her to narrate my life. haha
I was happy that there was a funny aunt thrown into the mix of characters. I love it when quirky and funny family members are main parts of books. She always gave fun advice and tried to play matchmaker for Kate. I loved getting to know her throughout the book.
Something I was a little sad about was that I didn’t get to know the friends of Kate a little better. I mean, I understand that this was a romance book about Kate and her man, but I always enjoy getting to know the group of friends the main character has as well. Kate gave an overview of each character, but I wouldn’t have minded more interaction with them.
Overall, this was a perfect winter read full of romance (seriously), quirky characters, and laugh-out-loud humor. I will definitely be reading the other romance books Hawthorne has written.
