Hey y’all! We’re halfway through the year now so it’s time for the mid-year book freakout tag! Honestly, I’m not entirely sure where this tag originated, but I’m happy to be apart of it this year!
Best book I have read so far in 2020:
I would have to say STARRY EYES by Jenn Bennett or WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI by Sandhya Menon. They both got 5-star reviews from me for so many reasons. I definitely recommend reading both of them if you haven’t already.
Best sequel I have read so far in 2020:
I haven’t read a lot of series this year so far, but I would have to say my favorite sequel of the year is THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE by Sandhya Menon.
New release I have not read yet, but really want to:
I have heard so much about BEACH READ by Emily Henry, but I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully, I’ll get to it in July.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year:
Oh, this is a tough one. There are so many books coming out soon…I would have to say INSTANT KARMA by Marissa Meyer or THE COUSINS by Karen McManus.
Biggest disappointment:
*Sigh* I hate having to say this, but the biggest disappointment for me was definitely THE BETROTHED by Kiera Cass. I loved THE SELECTION series so much that I was sure I would love this new series by her, but I didn’t. I’ll try again on her next series.
Biggest surprise:
Another easy one. WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI was one I did not expect to love, but I did. This is also the book that made me become a dedicated fan of Sandhya Menon’s.
Favorite new author:
Jenn Bennett and Sandhya Menon are two new ones for me. They’re both YA contemporary authors (although Menon does have a new fantasy retelling out that I’m dying to read).
New fictional crush:
Ethan from THE WRONG PROM DATE by Alexandra Moody is probably my number one crush this year. He had that nerdy/part of a band vibe going and I was totally into it.
New favorite character:
I loved Daisy from PRINCE CHARMING (formally ROYALS) by Rachel Hawkins. She was quirky and funny and had this unpredictable personality that made the book so exciting. I really wish I could meet her in real life.
Book that made you cry:
I would have to say EDENBROOKE by Julianne Donaldson. I re-read it this year and it made me cry just like the first time. The romance is just so wonderful that I can’t help, but shed a tear when reading it.
Book that made you happy:
I HATE YOU, FULLER JAMES by Kelly Anne Blount fills this role for me. It was a sweet and well-written YA contemporary romance that just made me smile at the end. I really enjoyed reading it.
Most beautiful book you have bought this year:
FOUR DEAD QUEENS by Astrid Scholte has such a lovely cover. I am currently reading it (albeit, very slowly) and can’t wait to finish it!
What books do you need to read by the end of the year:
HA! Soooo many. A few that I’m currently reading and want to read soon are THE SCAM LIST by Kurt Dinan, FOUR DEAD QUEENS by Astrid Scholte, THE PRINCESS WILL SAVE YOU by Sarah Henning, HOW TO FAIL AT FLIRTING by Denise Williams, and LES IS MORE by Jess Carpenter.
