Synopsis

Not on Sunny’s list: accidentally filming a PG-13 cooking video that goes viral (#browniegate). Extremely not on her list: being shipped off to a digital detox farm camp in Iowa (IOWA??) for a whole month. She’s traded in her WiFi connection for a butter churn, and if she wants any shot at growing her social media platform this summer, she’ll need to find a way back online.

But between some unexpected friendships and an alarmingly cute farm boy, Sunny might be surprised by the connections she makes when she’s forced to disconnect.

Review

This was an enjoyable summer camp book that was different than most summer camp books. It was funny, imaginative, and still had hints of things that make summer camp books so great.

Sunny was such a great character to get to know. She was hilarious (mostly without meaning to be), loyal, and a blast to be around. I think I would have loved to have her as a friend when I was a teenager. It was so great to get to know her and see her progress in this book. She makes a lot of mistakes throughout the book, but most of them come out of well-intended actions. In general, I loved to see how she made the most out of her situation and ended up where she did in the end. We need more characters like her!

Some of my dislikes of this book come from the fact that this book was kinda slow. Things were happening and the plot was moving forward, but there weren’t very many actionable moments (if that makes sense). It just kinda felt like I was watching a semi-boring “life in the day” video. It’s not until quite a ways into the book that actionable things begin to take place.

I was also a bit dissatisfied with the ending. It felt a bit abrupt. I guess things were mostly wrapped up, but it didn’t feel like the book should be ending. At least an epilogue would have helped the case, but we didn’t get one of those either.

Overall, I enjoyed this book funny and unexpected book. There were some things I didn’t like, but I’d still recommend this one to others.
