Summary
A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out.
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why–or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch–and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.
Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

Review
Oh. My. Gosh…Oh my GOSH!!!!! I can’t even think straight. This book has absolutely taken my breath away and will no doubt be on my mind until I can somehow get my hands on a copy of the second book. I’m shook…
Where do I even begin!!! This book was just incredible from page one. The way the author set up this book was pure magic. And the way everything just came together…WOW. Surely, she is a witch because this book could not have been put together by someone without magical abilities.
The characters were absolutely phenomenal, first of all. Each character was very distinct and would react in a certain and calculated predictable way to each circumstance. Their reactions would almost be predictable except, nothing in this book was predictable.
I thought I knew what I was getting myself into, but I did not. The author took me for a ride that never slowed down. The twists and turns still have my head spinning, but I enjoyed absolutely every second of it.
Everyone had their own agenda in this book. Just when I thought I knew what they wanted, things would get crazy and I would be proved wrong. Again. But even though they all had different agendas, they all had to work together to solve the game. And it seemed like with each clue that was revealed came a new secret. The problem was there was always another clue. And with a new clue came a new secret.
I have no words. This book is surely the most well-thought-out and intricately written book of the century. 10/5 stars for this book!!
