Lee f’ing Burrows
The Kingsmen’s star quarterback.
Legendary throwing arm.
Six-pack abs.
Kissable lips.
Oh, but don’t forget, he’s also a lying, heartless egomaniac who broke my heart in college.
It took me years to build myself back up after his deceit, and now I have the dream opportunity to prove myself working as a sports therapist for a professional team.
The hurdle? Or mountain to be more accurate…
The job is with the San Francisco Kingsmen.
Back when I was a naïve college girl, I felt lucky that he even noticed me. Now eight years later, he’d be lucky if I gave him the time of day.
Which I won’t. Not ever.
Some people don’t deserve a second chance and Lee Burrows is one of them.
Now if someone could only tell him that because he’s hell-bent on scoring the winning touchdown and won’t accept that it’s game over for us.
Title: You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows (Kingsmen Football Stars, #1)
Author: Piper Rayne
Publication Date: December 27, 2022
Genres: Adult, Sports Romance, Contemporary
I can’t resist a sports romance, especially the first book in a brand new pro football series, so I knew I had to give this one a try.
I loved that this was a second-chance romance. Lee and Shayna had a history from college where he acted like a jerk to her and they went their separate ways. Years later, they’re reunited, unwillingly, working for the same football team.
I wish this book would have slowed down and taken its time with scenes. We’d see one little interaction that only last a few paragraphs and then we’re jumping to the next scene or the next day. I needed more time in the scenes. More time to get to know the characters and how they interacted.
Also, and maybe this is something that will come as the series progresses, I didn’t feel like the characters’ personalities were super nailed down. I was being told that this guy was grumpy and this guy was flirty, but I was only seeing it play out on page like that half the time. If this guy is flirty, make that very clear. Make him so flirty that I feel like I’m being hit on as the reader. Show don’t tell.
Overall, I was disappointed by this one. I’m still intrigued by the other players and their upcoming stories so it’s possible you might see me checking the next books out, but I’m still sad about this one.

They both have e-readers full of one-clickable books, they’re married to husbands who drive them to drink, and they’re both chauffeurs to their kids. Most of all, they love hot heroes and quirky heroines who make them laugh, and they hope you do, too!

We typically like second chance romances. Too bad this one was disappointing.

Oh no, what a bummer that this ended up being disappointing cos it does sound good. I also get frustrated when we don’t get enough time to really experience and feel the connection between the characters. Great review!
