Summary

Review

I can see the appeal in this book, but it just wasn’t for me.

I liked that we were able to see into the minds of many different characters through the 3rd person POV (along with a little side commentary from the narrator). I also like that the book was written in such a way that it all felt like gossip itself. Some things were never confirmed as truths or rumors and that kept me guessing.

On the other hand, there were lots of things I did not like or enjoy. There was so much drinking and smoking and overall unpleasantness that I just grew annoyed with it all. I’ve seen the show and I loved it so I thought I would like the books, but this book had a different feel to it than the show. It felt a little darker, but not quite as exciting or shocking.

I was really expecting so much more. Maybe the series gets better, but I’m not going to stick around to find out.
