Of all the things that could have landed in her yard… it had to be him.
For most people, finding a half-naked superbeing in their yard might be a dream come true.
Unfortunately for Gracie Castro, it’s the exact opposite.
Especially when he’s grouchy, rude, and shows no signs of leaving anytime soon.
But when a hero of mankind needs you, you do what you have to.
Even if it compromises everything you know.
And totally changes your life.

This was another book that didn’t go exactly as I thought it would, but was still enjoyable.
Even though this was a superhero novel, it was different than most because we don’t really see our superhero, The Defender, fighting off villains and whatnot. There is a conflict in the book and some bad guys, but that’s dealt with fairly early on and then the book just turns into a mostly contemporary love story.
I liked that there was a mystery to Gracie’s life from the beginning. It kept me guessing for the first few chapters, trying to understand why Gracie had to move so often, who she was trying to escape, why the disguises, etc.
This was a grumpy/sunshine and slow-burn romance. And I do mean slow burn. I love slow burns so this was right up my alley, especially since this book was extra long so I had to wait that much longer for the HEA. Also, because of all of this, it wasn’t until about halfway through that things started to get cute and romantic. I didn’t feel overly angry at this, but it could have been sped up a bit.
This book was waayyyyy too long. There were so many chapters that could have been deleted and the book would have held up. I genuinely don’t understand why it was so long.
Overall, this might be my favorite Zapata book to date. Also, it wasn’t too sci-fi so for die-hard contemporary romance fans, this one will still be enjoyable for you.
